What is search volume?
The Search volume is a metric that indicates how many people are searching for a particular thing (data is usually monthly). When creating your Content strategy considering the search volume is crucial as it reflects the popularity of the search query. Ideally, you want to target keywords with a high Search volume and find as little competition as possible. However, it can also be an effective strategy, Long Tail Keywords that appeal to your target audience with little competition.
So you can get a rough feel for the amount:
- 0-200 searches per month: very little
- 200-500 searches per month:little
- 500-1,000 searches per month:below average
- 1,000-3,000 searches per month:average
- 3,000-5,000 searches per month: much
- 5,000-10,000 searches per month: very much
- 10,000-30,000 searches per month: extremely much
- 30,000+ searches per month: "So much competition, it's going to be damn difficult, my friend"
What is the benefit of tracking search volume?
The view of your Search volume can provide you with important insights into the popularity of certain keywords and their fluctuations over the course of the year. Exact match data will show you exactly how many searches were conducted each month of the year. Rolling average data, on the other hand, will show the total volume for all search queries throughout the year and determine the average value. This can be helpful if you are working with highly seasonal keywords such as "Christmas gifts" or "Halloween costumes".
How to use search volume data
Armed with the data from keyword analysis, you can access optimal keywords throughout the year. Knowing the value of certain keywords and how their usage fluctuates throughout the year, you can identify optimal ways to use them.
You will be able to understand historical trends and make future predictions. If you have a historical Search volume for specific keywords, you can see if falling search volumes indicate a drop in the keyword's value or if it's part of the seasonal annual cycle. This will help you make future predictions about the keyword's performance and inform your decisions about the best keywords for your content.
The use of Search volume can help you put together the keywords you will use to create a successful website. Understand the difference between exact match data and moving average data and use it as needed to better understand a keyword's performance.
